‘The place for the deaf to exchange ideas and solutions to everyday challenges of being deaf in the UK.’
Welcome to Talking Deafness a web site and forum for the deaf to discuss the challenges presented by those who have been deaf since childhood or deafened in adulthood.
This forum is open to all people who are severe/profoundly deaf in recognition of the fact that in the UK no single body addresses the needs and lobbies on behalf of all deaf adults.
Here you can ask questions about life as someone who is deaf, discuss different ways of coping and also where relevant assist in lobbying for change and recognition of the hidden sensory disability. It’s impacts of which are very wide and touch on nearly every aspect of our lives.
The rules for the forum are very simple and are intrinsically based on trust and treating other members with the courtesy and dignity each of us deserve. Life is challenging enough being deaf without the need to be abusive.
The forum is only available to members, there is no guest access, but there are special areas, including one for recipients of a Hearing Dogs and approved applicants to discuss working and living with a Hearing Dog and the challenges this can place in everyday life.
‘Deaf culture’ or differentiation between those who have been deaf since childhood and those deafened in adult life is not in the culture of this site or forum, it is unite us in a common disability that we suffer, not to divide us.
Thank you, David Ball, founder of Talking Deafness
